Goals & Outcomes

The goal was to design a complete mobile job search experience and prepare a realistic plan for building its first functional MVP.

Jolty was created as my Computer Science bachelor’s diploma project, which allowed me to combine product design and project management in one case. I worked on the product experience, research, interface design, MVP scope, delivery planning, budget considerations, risks, and implementation documentation.

The result was a polished mobile product concept supported by a complete MVP 1.0 development and deployment plan, usability testing, feature prioritization, and documentation prepared for implementation.

Overview

Jolty is a mobile job search and career network application designed to make finding and applying for relevant opportunities more straightforward.

The experience focuses on personalized job recommendations, efficient search, a simpler application process, and application tracking. The goal was to reduce friction across the job search journey while keeping the interface clear, accessible, and visually cohesive.

UX Research & Market Analysis

The project started with research into the job search market and existing digital products.

I reviewed competing platforms, created a SWOT analysis, and collected qualitative input through surveys and interviews with job seekers. The goal was to understand where existing experiences created friction and what users expected from a modern mobile job search product.

The research highlighted several important needs:

• More relevant and personalized job recommendations
• A faster and clearer application process
• Better visibility into application progress
• Less friction during onboarding and job discovery
• A mobile experience that feels focused rather than overloaded

These findings were translated into user personas, journey maps, and the initial product requirements.

Functional Planning & Budget

After defining the core user needs, I moved into functional planning and MVP scoping.

I prioritized the functionality required for the first release, created an Index Project Plan, structured milestones in a Gantt chart, defined project risks and mitigations, and worked through the resources needed for development.

The project plan covered 195 planned days, running from April 2024 to December 2024.

I also worked on team formation and budget planning with input from experienced Product and Project Managers so the MVP plan would remain realistic from both product and delivery perspectives.

MVP Definition

The MVP focused on the features that directly support the main job search journey.

The critical functionality included job listings, search, personalized discovery, and application tracking. Secondary ideas were deprioritized so the first release could remain focused and realistic to deliver.

The MVP scope also included the requirements needed for development, testing, deployment, and eventual app store submission.

UI Design

The design process started with wireframes and several rounds of iteration before moving into the final branded interface.

Once the core functionality and user flows were established, I created a cohesive visual direction around typography, color, hierarchy, accessibility, and interaction patterns.

The final interface was designed to feel simple and approachable while still giving users enough information to evaluate jobs, move through onboarding, and manage applications without unnecessary complexity.

Usability Testing

The product was tested with real users through multiple rounds of usability testing.

Testing helped identify issues in the onboarding and job search experience, which were then refined through additional design iterations. The goal was to make the most important actions easier to understand before considering the product ready for implementation.

The final UX reflected both the original product concept and the behavior observed during testing.

Development Documentation

The final case included the documentation required to move from product design into implementation.

I prepared design specifications, development guidelines, testing requirements, feature priorities, delivery planning, and the structure needed for deployment and app store submission.

This made Jolty more than a design prototype. It became a documented implementation ready MVP concept with a clear path toward development.
